Nasra Farook

Change making is a process and leadership is a journey. Each and every step of the way is equally significant towards achieving great desired milestones. This makes it profoundly deductible that working in social innovation and the impact sector is certainly a challenging yet ultimately fulfilling task. Just but a few elements needed to be input towards excellence are lots of sacrifice, long working hours and an unwavering commitment.

MTY appreciates the value of each individual to actualize the change is desirable see in society.  Celebrating differences, a robust social support system and peer to peer validation goes a long way to motivating change makers to keep doing what they do to make society a better place.

In March this year, Nasra Farook got one of the highest accolades that passionate young change makers in East and central Africa anticipate: induction into the prestigious Young African Leadership Initiative. From a pool of over 6,000 applicants, Nasra was one of only 100 Fellows who were chosen into the YALI program. Nasra has been one of the loyal volunteers with MTY since 2017 and she recently started her own initiative on charity and health programs along the Coastal region. Currently, she is equally giving back to society as a teacher and runs a mentorship club at her school. She uses this as a platform to inspire and share her experiences with students so as to give them hope and enable them to find purpose in their lives before they live high school.

The YALI program was founded by Former US President Obama as a platform to identify promising change makers in East and central Africa and support them in acquiring the necessary skills and networks needed to propagate ethical and egalitarian leadership on the continent.

Because of her skills and expertise, Nasra has had opportunities to engage some of the brightest minds in the continent working in sectors ranging from design, education, best replica watches advocacy and finance among other sectors in different platforms aiming to foster pan-African cross pollination and propagate ethical leadership and management. Given the connected world we live in today, building bridges across countries and cultures is an essential component of effective change making.

Mingling with other leaders reinforces some of the values that Nasra treasures in her day to day work. Some of the values are inclusivity, collaboration, stewardship and selflessness which she saw as being espoused by the YALI program.

While Nasra is proud of her induction into YALI, she feels that she is just at the start of her change maker journey. For her, empowering other African youth to take a proactive role in creating the society they desire is her ultimate goal.
